Global molybdenum usage rises, production falls in 2022

IMOA shows that the global production of molybdenum was at 577.8 million pounds in 2022, a fall of 1% from 581.4 million pounds in 2021. Global usage rose 3% to 631.5 million pounds from 614.3 million pounds the previous year.
China’s production of molybdenum at 248.6 million pounds, up 12% from 222.3 million pounds in 2021. South America saw an 8% drop in production to 166.7 million pounds, from 181.3 million pounds. North America saw a 13% fall in production to 112.1 million pounds from 128.6 million pounds. Other regions saw a 2% rise in production to 50.4 million pounds from 49.2 million pounds in 2021.
China saw the largest rise, up 9% from 245.6 million pounds in 2021. Europe remained down 4% from 129.9 to 124.2 million pounds in 2021. Other regions saw a rise in usage of 5% to 105.7 million pounds from 100.6 in 2021.
